Dr Vanessa Waite shares her journey from growing up in a close-knit mining village in South Wales to building a successful career as a veterinary surgeon, business owner, former national-level athlete, and mum. Through personal anecdotes, she explores how seizing opportunities, accepting guidance, and stepping forward with confidence, even in moments of self-doubt, can shape both personal and professional growth.
Drawing on her experiences studying veterinary medicine at university, competing in national-level sport, and navigating the ups and downs of everyday life, Vanessa reflects on the lessons of resilience, authenticity, and mentorship. In recognition of International Women’s Day, her talk highlights the power of support, shared experience, and taking chances in creating meaningful growth and impact for yourself and others.

About Your Speaker - Dr Vanessa Waite
Director, The Vet Station, Molesey
Dr Vanessa Waite is a veterinary surgeon, practice owner, and former Welsh rugby player with over 15 years’ experience in small animal veterinary medicine. Raised in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, she developed an early interest in animal care and a strong commitment to learning and professional practice.
After qualifying from the University of Cambridge in 2008, Vanessa built a varied career across general practice in Greater London, alongside continued postgraduate training. Her experience includes complex orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, diagnostic imaging, and involvement in the establishment of an overseas veterinary clinic early in her career.
Vanessa is the Director and Lead Vet at The Vet Station in Molesey, an independent, family-run practice she founded with her family. She combines clinical leadership with a strong focus on teamwork, mentorship, and creating supportive environments for both colleagues and clients.
